No to US Missile Defence – Demonstrate at Fylingdales Radar Base, North Yorkshire. Saturday 13th June. Manchester coach leaves 10am Fylingdales in Yorkshire is one of the US Bases from which the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were launched. It is part of a string of US bases in Europe which now push up to and encircle Russia, threatening to spark a wider war. 'The battleground between East and West these days includes not only Georgia, but the Czech Republic, Poland and the Baltics. Not only is US President Barack Obama continuing Bush’s policy of provoking Russia in Georgia, but he made no indication in his first 100 days that he would reverse the planned Star Wars radar installation in the Czech Republic and Poland.' There has though been widespread protests against these plans. The broad based Czech organisation, the No Bases Initiative, has been campaigning against the missile bases. After mass mobilisations and protests the Czech government fell earlier this year. Jan Tamas, leader of the radar base protest said "Our people do not want foreign troops on their territory, the US will be forced to review their plans. It’s a victory of people not of politicians.” The US Missile Defence system is a provocative military system, under the guise of defence. It will make the world even more unstable and insecure. They operate outside British law and Parliamentary scrutiny. Help build European wide opposition to the US bases. Join us at the protest called by CND at Flyingdales. No to US Missile Defence.
