Manchester builds solidarity with Gaza "Every day that they bomb Gaza we will demonstrate." said Nahalla Ashraf at last Sunday's four hundred strong protest in Manchester, and every night this week at least a hundred people have joined torch light protest vigils. "What is going on in Gaza as we speak is genocide," said Dr Aziz from the Muslim Association of Britain. In every mosques across the city people are building for our Saturday demonstration."
"We chose to meet outside the BBC as it is the nearest thing in Manchester to an Israeli embassy," explained Mark Krantz, "You hear Israeli diplomats making excuses for the killing every day on the radio but you dont hear the voices of the Palestinians."
On the demonstration we are collecting money for the Palestinian Relief group Interpal. 'If any of the banks try to stop donations getting through to help the Palestinians we will picket the banks.' said campaigner Naomi.
Sixty people came to an organising meeting last Tuesday to form a Gaza Solidarity Committee to unify and cordinate solidarity across the city. New activists have joined Palestinians and their supporters, the Stop The War Coalition, PSC, and people from MAB to form a dynamic force. We meet next week to plan what to do next.
