Fifty people joined a protest vigil outside the BBC on Oxford Rd, Manchester in support of journalist  Muntadar Al-Zaidi who threw shoes at Bush saying: 'This is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog. This is for the widows, the orphans, and those who were killed in Iraq.”

Protesters chanted, 'FREE! FREE! ZAIDI!', and 'GEORGE BUSH! HE'S A DOG'.

What We Think

Muntadar Al-Zaidi is seen in the above video throwing his shoes at George Bush at a press conference. He expressed the true feelings of millions of people not just in Iraq but around the world. Thousands have marched in his support, petitions, letters and solidarity protests are spreading.

Muntadar faces a prison sentence of 7-15 years for 'aggression towards a  president'. His arrest, imprisonment, and beating has left him unfit to appear in court.

The head of Iraq's journalists' union has asked the Iraqi government for clemency towards the journalist who is still in custody. We also seek clemency for Muntadar.

Too many journalists have been killed reporting on the Iraq war. Too many lies have been told about the war. The actions of this journalist expresses as clearly as any words the bloody results of seven years of war and occupation and the anger we feel about the seven years of war on Iraq.
