Manchester Public Meeting - 2pm Sat 9th Oct
Friends Meeting House, Mount St Manchester
With Joe Glenton & Paveen Yaqub

Paveen Yaqub is a survivor of the Mari Mavara. She was helping take aid to Gaza and witnessed the lethal attack by Israeli commandos in international waters. Paveen has helped lead protests across the region demanding an ending of the siege of Gaza. At the moment the fifth Viva Palestina! convoy is in France on its way to Gaza. Paveen will be returning with the next Flotilla taking aid to Gaza. As the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement gathers pace, Paveen will give an eye witness account and an update on the movement to break the illegal Gaza siege
Joe Glenton has now been released after three months in military detention following his opposition to the war in Afghanistan. His experiences in the army in Afghanistan exposed him to the reality of the war and occupation. With over 70% of people now agreeing that British soldiers should be withdrawn, Joe speaks for the majority in Britain, while our politicians deny that this war, just like the Iraq war, is based on lies and is leading to countless and unnecessary deaths.
Andrew Murray is National Chair of the Stop the War Coalition, which first mobilised opposition to the Afghan war nine years ago. Following the biggest demonstration in British history the STWC convinced the majority in Britain that the Iraq war was wrong.
Andrew will be central to the organisation of the next national demonstration demanding - Afghanistan! Time To Go! - to be held in central London on 20th November.
There will be time for questions and discussion. All welcome.
