We held protest vigils in Saddleworth, Glossop, Bolton and Manchester to mark the loss of 100 soldiers.
In Albert Square Manchester shoppers stopped to help write names and create a memorial display to all those who have died.

Local Stop the War groups are sending a delegation to London next week which includes Karla Ellis, whose brother Lee Ellis was killed in Iraq, and Bertie Lewis a veteran of WW2. They will join Military Families Against the War when they will deliver the Bring the Troops Home petition and demand to see Gordon Brown on 21st December.
Manchester's 100 Soldiers Protest Vigil 2pm Saturday 12th December
Outside Manchester Town Hall. Albert Square (Meet on Lloyd St, at the back of Central Library, by entrance to the Xmas Market)
'Gordon Brown should be talking about an exit strategy not a surge!' said Karla Ellis on hearing the news that 100 soldiers had been killed in Afghanistan in 2009. Her brother Lee was killed in Iraq.
One hundred British soldiers have now been killed this year in Afghanistan.
Sending more soldiers to Afghanistan will lead to even more death and killing.
Stop the War in Manchester will mark the loss of 100 British soldiers and the loss of un told numbers of Afghans in the war, now in its ninth year.
Names will be displayed in a pictorial memorial.
Shoppers going to the Xmas market will be asked to sign petitions calling for Troops Out of Afghanistan!
Petitions will be handed to Gordon Brown at 10 Downing St at 5pm on Monday December 21st by Military Families Against the War.
This is one of a series of protest across the country see www.stopwar.org.uk
