An Alternative to Remembrance Day - Friday 11 November

E-mail Print PDF

Greater Manchester Stop the War Coalition is holding a Candle Lit Tribute and Naming of the Dead on Remembrance day Friday November 11th 5.30pm War memorial/Peace Gardens, Manchester.

This year, Remembrance Day for members of the armed forces killed in war since World War I is on the tenth anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan. It is an opportunity to give voice to the majority opinion in Britain that want all the troops to come home from Afghanistan so that no more are made to risk their lives in a failing war in which Afghan civilians and invading soldiers are being killed at a higher rate that any time since the invasion in 2001

To mark ten years of continuing occupation by British Troops in Afghanistan we will pay tribute to those that have died both civilian and miltary.

We  will name some of those who have died and appeal for an end to war.

There will be candles supplied by Stop the War and white poppies supplied by CND, music, poems and words and our petition.

Please feel free to bring poems, pictures and words and join us, not just to mourn but also to give voice to the massive opposition to war that exists in Britain today.

Please reply to this email or ring/text Penny 07966632027 if you, or you know someone who would like to join in with  a poem or perform.
