Say NO to Nuclear Power in the UK - 6pm Thurs protest
Meet by the statute of Queen Victoria, Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester.

The earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan has had horrific consequences of tens of thousands of people. With hundreds of people killed, thousands made homeless and extensive devastation.

The situation continues to worsen with ongoing problems at Japan's nuclear power plants. Authorities have extended the evacuation zone and following a second explosion at the Fukushima site, there are real concerns about the spread of radiation. The Tokyo Electric Power company has reported that sections of the reactor core are exposed.

As Kate Hudson, the General Secretary of CND says "There must be no nuclear whitewash over Fukushima or any other consequnce of nuclear power - including the high incidence of childhood leukemias near nuclear power stations. It's time to end the myth that nuclear power is clean and safe and an answer to climate change. It's time to say No. Now."

One of the bye products of the nuclear power industry is plutonium that is then used to make nuclear weapons. Both nuclear power and nuclear weapons are a threat to us all.

'With the 25th anniversary of the disaster at Chernobyl looming, and the people of Japan living in fear of a nuclear power station meltdown, we are calling on all anti nuclear and environmental campaigners to come together in a show of solidarity and empathy.' Jacqui Burke, from CND, Secretary Greater Manchester Stop the War Coalition
