'Gordon Brown should be talking about an exit strategy not a surge!'
said Karla Ellis on hearing the news that 100 soldiers had been killed in Afghanistan in 2009. Karla Ellis, whose brother Lee Ellis from the Paras was killed in Iraq in 2003, confronted Brown when he was in Manchester last month trying to explain his Afghan policy. 'I do not understand how sending more soldiers to die or be injured could honour the ones already fallen!' says Karla. Later this month Karla will travel down with Manchester Stop the War to London to take petitions to Gordon Brown at 10 Downing St 'I will be going to London on the 21st December to hand Gordon Brown those petitions signed by thousands of people from across Greater Manchester calling for Troops Out of Afghanistan. If someone with morals had stopped the war in Iraq, my brother would be alive! I feel for the soldiers, I feel for the families and I feel for the future.' Stop the War in Manchester will hold a protest vigil outside Manchester Town Hall on Saturday. Shoppers at the Christmas market will be asked to sign the Troops Out of Afghanistan petition.
